Feb. 27, 2021 - Boosted by strong performances in the sprint events, he North Central College men's track and field team claimed first-place finishes in nine of the 16 contested events in Friday's dual meet with Wheaton College at Al B. Carius Track.
Already one of the nation's leaders in the 400-meter dash,
Michael Stanley turned in a season-best time of 49.79 seconds at the distance Friday to move up to No. 7 on the national NCAA Division III list.
Jamauri Spivery, meanwhile, turned in a personal-best time of 7.06 seconds to win the 60-meter dash and move up to No. 5 on the North Central all-time list.
Stanley also joined up with
Gabe Pommier,
Connor Riss and
James McGlashon to win the distance medley relay in a time of 10:22.83 which currently stands second-fastest among all Division III teams this season. Pommier, already the Division III national leader in the mile run, dropped down in distance and won Friday's 800-meter run in 1:56.64.
The 12th-ranked Cardinals swept the distance-running events as
Tim Bertulis finished first in the 3,000-meter run (9:05.89) and
Matt Boelke prevailed in the 5,000-meter run (15:05.58). Achieving victory in the field events were
Nick Janca in the high jump (6'3.50"),
Kendall Johnson in the triple jump (46'2") and
Taylor Sadkowski in the 35-pound weight throw (47'2.25").
North Central will host Elmhurst University in dual competition on Friday before traveling to compete in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Elite Invitational on Mar. 13 at Illinois Wesleyan University.
