ELMHURST, Ill (Apr. 23, 20021) – Backed by 15 top-three finishes on Friday, the North Central College men's outdoor track and field team claimed the team title at the Elmhurst University Invitational under the lights of Langhorst Field.
North Central scored 169 total points over the 20 events scored, followed by Wheaton College in second with 152.5 points and Aurora University rounded out the top-three with 105 points.
On the track,
Kyle Bell cruised to the win in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:46.14, while the Cardinals took seven of the top-eight positions in the 10,000-meter run, highlighted by
Matt Boelke's first-place time of 31:19.37.
In the 1,500-meter run,
Logan Tanttu (4:06.71) and
Ryan Arnold (4:06.91) finished second and third, respectively, while
AJ Lehman came in second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 52.75 seconds.
The Cardinals also finished 2-3 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as
Josh Johnson finished less than a second behind the first-place finisher in a time of 10:20.13, while
Nathan Brischetto came in third in a time of 10:36.51.
Finishing up on the track was
Kase Leday who took third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.88, while the 4x400-meter relay team of
Blake Walters, Tanttu,
Ben Piotrowski and
Nigel Neibel too third in a time of 3:33.54.
In the field,
Taylor Sadkowski followed up his CCIW Athlete of the Week award by winning the hammer throw with a toss of 167'10", just shy of his personal best.
The Cardinals also received second-place finishes from
Gavin Carr in the pole vault (13'5.25") and
Jacob Miller in the long jump (21'3.5"), while
Cole Paulline took third in the discuss throw (119'5").
North Central returns to action on Friday, Apr. 30 at the Don Church Twilight Meet hosted by Wheaton College in the final tune-up before the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships on May 7.
