- The North Central College women's track and field team continued to sharpen itself for postseason competition Friday, seeing several Cardinals improve upon season-best marks in the F. Lee Slick Invitational at Al B. Carius Track.

The 23rd-ranked Cardinals totaled 87 points to finish second only to Lewis University (244) in the seven-team field. North Central's lone first-place finish came in the 20-pound weight throw, as Alexandra Draves placed first with a distance of 16.58 meters (54 feet, 4.75 inches).

The 60-meter hurdles alone contained three personal-best efforts which rank among the Cardinals' all-time best. Julia Babinec placed second with a mark of 8.62 seconds, just .07 away from the North Central varsity record of 8.55, set by NCAA Division III indoor champion Madison Renfro '16 in 2016.

Placing third just behind Babinec was Denise Partee, whose personal-best time of 8.86 seconds ranks third-fastest in the Cardinals' history and ninth-fastest in Division III. Katie Wagner, meanwhile, clocked a personal-record time of 9.43 seconds and continues to rank eighth in school history.

Marcedes Jackson's fourth-place showing in the 60-meter dash was achieved with a personal-best time of 7.83 seconds, also fourth-fastest in program history and 21st nationally. Lyndsey Novak turned in a time of 25.75 seconds to place second in the 200-meter dash, shaving .01 off a personal-best time achieved last week in the Pat Heenan Invitational.

Kathy Myrda cleared 3.61 meters (11'10") to finish third in the pole vault and continues to rank 14th nationally in the event with a season-best clearance of 3.66 meters (12'0").

Recently voted first in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll, the Cardinals travel to the Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center at Carthage College Friday and Saturday for the CCIW Indoor Championship. North Central is the two-time defending champion, having won the 2019 and 2020 meets before the 2021 edition was cancelled.
