Apr. 16, 2022 - Seven first-place finishes and a run into the record book for senior distance runner
Jenna Fiore highlighted the North Central College women's track and field team's first home meet of the outdoor season, the First Chance Invitational, Friday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Fiore's second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run came in a time of four minutes, 37.89 seconds, more than seven seconds faster than Fiore's previous lifetime best. The performance ranks ninth-fastest in North Central history and sits 17th among all NCAA Division III competitors this season.
Five of the Cardinals' first-place finishes came in field events, including the top four places in the high jump.
Anna Cotter won the event with a clearance of four feet, 11.75 inches (1.52 meters), while
Angelika Tokarczyk placed second (4'9.75", 1.47m) and
Sarah Elischer and
Erica Johnson tied for third (4'7.75", 1.42m).
Rachel Parthemore and
Angelina Ungaro placed first (16'3", 4.95m) and second (15'6", 4.72m), respectively, in the long jump.
Kathy Myrda took first in the pole vault (11'11.75", 3.65m) while
Natalie Johnson tied a season best (11'5.75", 3.50m) placing third.
Alexandra Draves won the hammer throw (161'5", 49.20m) and placed second in the discus throw (114'5", 34.87m).
Faith Ladin's mark of 120'8" (36.79m) won the javelin throw with
Hannah Jones placing second (114'4", 34.84m).
Claiming victories on the track were
Denise Partee in the 100-meter hurdles (14.91) and
Nicole Brandy in the 10,000-meter run (39:23.99).
Jones finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (a personal-best 1:07.77), as did
Marcedes Jackson in the 100-meter dash (12.66).
The Cardinals compete in the Wheaton College Invitational Saturday, Apr. 23.
