Kathy Myrda soared to a place of rare company in NCAA Division III history Thursday on the first day of the Carius/Gregory Invitational.
Myrda won the pole vault competition, clearing a personal-record height of 13 feet, 1.50 inches (4.00 meters) on the first attempt, surpassing the previous lifetime best of 12'7.50" set the previous week at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships at Wheaton College. Myrda, whose personal best has improved by nearly a foot since the start of the outdoor campaign, now ranks first among all Division III vaulters this season and 16th in Division III history.
Placing second in the 100-meter hurdles Friday was
Denise Partee, who established a new personal record of 14.29 seconds which ranks fourth in program history and 18th in the nation. Partee anchored the 4-by-100-meter relay team that finished third Friday, teaming with
Lauren Larsen,
Julia Babinec and
Marcedes Jackson to clock a season-best time of 46.81 seconds. The time is the second-fastest in North Central history (46.67, 2015) and ranks fifth among Division III teams nationally.
Julianne Billings also finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:45.51), while third-place finishes came from
Alexandra Draves in the hammer throw (a season-best 171'6" [52.28m]) and
Lindsey Novak in the 200-meter dash (25.02). Jackson placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.21), as did
Faith Ladin in the javelin throw (127'9", [38.95m) and
Jenna Fiore in the ,1,500-meter run (4:47.51).
The Cardinals host a multi-event qualifier Monday and Tuesday.
