ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 18, 2023) - The North Central College women's track and field team turned in a slew of personal best efforts at the Augustana Midwest Twilight in Rock Island on Thursday, bettering its marks ahead of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held May 25-27 in Rochester, New York.
Marcedes Jackson led the field heading into the 100-meter-dash finals after posting a 12.05 qualifying mark and clocking an 11.98 in the finals to finish second overall. She moves up to No. 22 in the nation and ranks second in the program's history.
Alexandra Draves won the hammer throw with a toss of 175 feet, and four inches (53.44 meters). Hannah Jones turned in a career best effort in the javelin throw of 131 feet, and eight inches (40.15m) to finish second and currently ranks fifth on the program's all-times list.
Lindsey Novak lowered her 400-meter-dash personal best to 55.42 seconds to place third overall in Rock Island. Novak's time is second-best in the program's history and currently ranks seventh in Division III. Novak teamed up with Cali Minkie, Faith Ladin, and Julia Babinec late in the meet for the 4-by-400-meter relay where the quartet finished third in three minutes, 47.89 seconds--a mark good enough for second in school history and is the nation's seventh fastest time this season.
Babinec had the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdle preliminary rounds with a 14.11 second run while Denise Partee was third out of prelims with 14.57 seconds--both opted out of the finals heat. Kyla Miller and Annie Brandt each turned in personal best efforts in the 200-meter dash as Miller's 25.84 seconds was good for 20th and Brandt's 26.19 seconds landed her 27th in the loaded field.
The Cardinals are headed to the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, New York for the Outdoor National Championships May 25-27.
