Sept. 18, 2024 - North Central College men's golf student-athlete Mitchell Mazzei has won this week's College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week award following a fifth-place finish at the Carthage College Firebird Fall Invite.

After shooting a 77 in the first round at Hawk's View Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, on Monday, Sept. 9, Mazzei came back to shoot a two-under-par 70 in the second round, sharing the lowest score in the field. The fifth-place individual finish helped the Cardinals to finish third in the 17-team event.

Earlier this fall, Mazzei smashed program records for the lowest 18- and 36-hole scores at Augustana College's Highland Championship. His second-round score of 65 surpassed the previous 18-hole program record of 67 set in 2022. Mazzei's 36-hole score of 135 bested the previous program record of 143 set in 2016.

Mazzei and the Cardinals are back on the course on Sept. 20-21 for the Midwest Region Classic hosted by Benedictine University at Brighton Dale Golf Course in Kansasville, Wisconsin. Click HERE to view the full schedule.
