NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 8, 2025) – Another week of strong competition for the North Central College men's cross country team led to the Cardinals holding onto their No. 6 ranking in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Week Four Coaches' Poll despite major shifts in the rest of the top 10.
The Cardinals had three groups competing this past Saturday, Oct. 4, with two squads running in the Gold and Blue races at the Division I Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic and another group taking the Skyhawk Invitational team win with a perfect 15-point score. In Louisville, North Central finished seventh in the Gold race and sixth in the Blue race, both of which had 30+ teams competing.
North Central is just one of three teams in the top 10 that held their position from last week, alongside No. 1 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and No. 2 Wartburg College. UW-La Crosse topped the poll with all 10 first-place votes and 300 points, while Wartburg totaled 290 points for second. Johns Hopkins University moved up two spots into third with 280 points, and New York University made a major jump, moving up nine spots into fourth with 262 points. Pomona-Pitzer Colleges fell just one spot into fifth with 258 points, followed by North Central in sixth (249). SUNY Geneseo slipped four spots into seventh (243), Williams College moved up to eighth (232), while Tufts University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps both fell two spots into ninth (215) and 10
th (214), respectively.
North Central sits second in the Midwest Region behind Wartburg. The remaining team in the Midwest top-five are the University of Chicago in third, Washington University in St. Louis in fourth, and Loras College in fifth.
The Cardinals will take a week off before heading to the Augustana Interregional Invitational in Rock Island, Ill. Saturday, Oct. 18.
