Cole Martin of the North Central College men's golf team have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America as NCAA Division III Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, the organization announced Tuesday. This honor is a testament to the success both in the classroom and on the golf course.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university. In total, 202 NCAA Division III athletes from 78 schools earned 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
Joy, a sport management major, averaged an 18-hole score of 74.83 over his 23 rounds played. He shot a career-low 70 in the Forester Invite on April 9. This past season, he finished in the top 10 on three separate occasions.
Lunde, now a two-time GCAA All-Academic Team honoree, played in 12 events this season, posting an average of 76.76. He also shot a career-low score of 70, coming in the first round of the Highland Championship. The entrepreneurship major earned two top 10 finishes.
Martin, a finance major, averaged a 77.71 over 18 holes in his 24 rounds played for North Central. His season-low of 73 came at the Midwest Region Classic in the second round.
The Cardinal men's golf team is set to open the 2025-25 season on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Aurora University Double Gun Classic. The 18-hole round begins at 7:45 a.m. at Aurora Country Club.
