May 4, 2010-- North Central College's
Jacob Austin has been honored as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Track Athlete of the Week after earning a provisional qualifying mark in the 1,500-meter run at Friday's Benedictine University Twilight Invitational.
Austin, a 2010 All-American during the indoor season in the 800-meters, clocked a 3:53.51 in the 1,500 at the Twilight Invitational, winning the event in a field featuring 47 competitors. The senior's time is currently the 14th fastest on the NCAA Division III national list.
This is the second straight week a North Central athlete has captured the honor as the Cardinals have claimed four of the seven Track Athlete of the Week awards this outdoor season. North Central's 4x400-meter relay squad that finished fifth at the Drake Relays won the award on April 28 while
Dan Benton and
Kyle Brady won the honor on April 13 and April 6, respectively. The Cardinals success has not been contained to just the track as
Jake Winder has earned an additional two CCIW Field Athlete of the Week citations for his efforts in the pole vault on April 6 and April 13.
North Central returns to action on Friday, traveling to Wheaton College for the two-day CCIW Championships.
