JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 2, 2010) - For the second straight year, the North Central College women's golf team has opened the fall season with a win, establishing new individual and team scoring records in topping a five-team field in the University of St. Francis Fall Classic Wednesday at Inwood Golf Course.
The Cardinals turned in a score of 324, which was 22 strokes better than the total North Central scored in winning the same tournament a year ago and 10 strokes lower than the previous school record of 334, which was set in 2008. The host Fighting Saints were three strokes behind with a score of 327.
Leading the charge for the Cardinals was
Alyssa Gaudio, who won the tournament for a second straight year. Her four over-par score of 75 was two strokes better than Robert Morris University's (Ill.) Brooke Melvin and was one stroke lower than the record she previously shared with teammate
Marisa Miko.
North Central had two other golfers in the top 10 individually, as Miko placed sixth (80) and
Mary Kate Rohn finished seventh (81).
Mallory Carr rounded out the Cardinals' scoring, carding an 88 to finish 13th.
The Cardinals are back in action Friday at the Robert Morris Fall Classic, which will be held at Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago. Miko will be defending the individual title at the event.
