MARSHALL, Mich. (Sept. 10, 2011) - Charging up the leaderboard with the best second-round score in the field, the North Central College women's golf team left The Medalist Golf Course on Saturday with a third-place finish in the Olivet College Fall Invitational.
Sitting fifth after Friday's first round, the Cardinals bounced back with a second-round score of 321, nine strokes better than any other squad in the 15-team field. The host Comets, who, like North Central, participated in last season's NCAA Division III National Championships, won the event with a score of 664, while the Cardinals finished with a total of 673.
Olivet's Lauren Campbell also won individual medalist honors, putting together a 36-hole score of 152. The Cardinals were led by
Mallory Carr, who placed fourth with 161, and
Marisa Miko, who finished sixth with 163. Carr and Miko shot identical scores of 77 in the second round, tying for the second-best round on the course on Saturday.
Mary Kate Rohn placed 15th for North Central, putting up a score of 172, while
Alayna Dufour finished 22nd with 177. Miko's 77 and Dufour's second-round 84 were the best single-round scores of the young season for both players.
The Cardinals return to action Sept. 17-18 at the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic, held at Ironwood Golf Course in Bloomington, Ill.
