LISLE, Ill. (Sept. 18, 2012) – Taking the short trek down the road to Benedictine University, the North Central College women's soccer team scored a trio of second half goals on its way to a 3-0 shutout Tuesday night.
The Cardinals (3-3-1) dominated on both sides of the ball in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net despite outshooting the host Eagles (3-3-1) by a 13-2 margin in the opening period of play.
Emily Page would get the Cardinals on the board in the 64
th minute, sneaking one past Eagle goalkeeper Candace Rodgers off a pass from
Hope Stayer, giving North Central a 1-0 advantage.
In the 80
th minute, Page would return the favor to find Stayer on a cross over the middle as the junior put home her team leading fifth goal of the season.
Rachel Houp would add an insurance goal in the 87
th minute, her first goal of the season off the foot of
Tyra Maher to give North Central the decisive 3-0 lead.
North Central outshot the Eagles 33-2 including ripping off 20 shots in the second half while the Cardinal defense held Benedictine to zero shot attempts in the second period.
Hope Stayer led all players with 10 shots on the night including four on goal.
Jacqueline Clore started in goal for the Cardinals while
Halley Robertson finished out the final 45:00 minutes. Rodgers recorded eight saves in the losing effort for Benedictine.
The Cardinals travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Webster University on Saturday, Sept. 22 with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
