Feb. 24, 2015 - North Central College men's track and field athlete Dan Lowry has been selected as one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's (CCIW) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, earning the conference's Field Event Athlete of the Week designation for the week of Feb. 16-22. The CCIW announced this week's selections on Tuesday.
Lowry received the distinction, the first of his collegiate career, on the strength of his performance in Friday's Cardinal Classic at Al B. Carius Track. He won the 35-pound weight throw with a personal-best distance of 50 feet, 10 inches which ranks seventh in North Central's history. Lowry also placed seventh in the shot put on Friday with a distance of 47'5 1/4".
North Central has won five of the six CCIW Field Event Athlete of the Week Awards this season, as pole vaulter Luke Winder has been recognized four times. The Cardinals have also won three CCIW Athlete of the Week accolades for running events, as Richard Ruske, Travis Morrison, and the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Daniel Spaccapaniccia, Derek Nelson, Mustapha Olaoye and Zach Kirby have all been recognized.
North Central travels to Carthage College for the 2015 CCIW Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, with competition scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on both days. The Cardinals have won all 14 previous CCIW indoor titles. More information can be found at cciw.org.
