DYER, Ind. (Nov. 1, 2021) - Winning twice in Sunday bracket play for the first time, the North Central College women's bowling team finished the Valpo Bowling Classic with a 12th-place finish over the weekend at Stardust Bowl III. The event was hosted by Valparaiso University.
The Cardinals entered Sunday's Baker-format competition in 13th place based on total pinfall. North Central defeated Spalding University (Kentucky), 4-3, in the first round of bracket play after trailing three games to one. The Cardinals then took down Elmhurst University, 4-1, before a 4-2 loss to Alabama A&M University to close out the competition.
North Central opened Baker play Friday with an 835-649 win over Spalding, followed by losses to NCAA Division II opponents Kentucky Wesleyan College (907-822), Lincoln Memorial University (889-720) and Drury University (822-693). The Cardinals defeated Dominican University, 732-627, in Saturday's first round of traditional play, then edged out Upper Iowa University (839-819) before losses to Division II Mercyhurst University (953-676) and Tusculum University (965-727) and an 813-728 setback against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Elmhurst University.
Lincoln Memorial defeated Lewis University in the championship match, while Mercyhurst's Haley Youker was the top finisher in traditional play with an average pinfall of 216.6. The Cardinals' top finisher was Jessica Ramirez in 35th place at 165.0, including a single-game high of 204. Kaitlin Freundt finished 40th (160.8), followed by Talia Roti in 44th (148.4) and Kelly Heighway in 46th (146.8).
