DYER, Ind. (Oct. 30, 2023) - The North Central College women's bowling team opened the 2023-2024 season at the Valpo Bowling Classic over the weekend, placing 17th as a team. The event was hosted by Valparaiso University at Stardust Bowl.

The Cardinals finished with a 1-9 record in match play, with the lone win coming over Dominican University, 696-599, in the final round of Baker-format play on Friday. North Central also faced off with Wright State University (an 858-770 loss), Newman University (1,104-753), Lewis University (908-600) and McKendree University (838-679).

North Central competed in three traditional-format matches on Saturday, losing head-to-head matchups with Baldwin-Wallace University (782-578), Maryville University (820-510), Kentucky Wesleyan College (909-619).

The Cardinals opened Sunday's Baker championship bracket with a 4-1 loss to Baldwin-Wallace before closing the weekend with a 4-3 setback against Dominican. Maryville won the team championship Sunday with a 4-1 win over Oklahoma Christian University in the tournament finale.

Lincoln Memorial University's Haley Powell won the individual championship with a five-game average pinfall of 220.2 in five traditional games. Jessica Ramirez led North Central with a 38th-place finish, averaging 169.2 pins per game with a high score of 202. Cheyanne Patterson and Lily Ratledge placed 47th (144.8) and 48th (143.8), respectively, and Patterson's third-round score of 210 was the Cardinals' highest of the weekend. Grace Chivari finished 77th (100.2) and Julie Concepcion was 99th (49.2).

North Central plays its final event of the fall campaign Nov. 18-19, participating in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Competition Date hosted by Carroll University at Sunset Bowl in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
