Apr. 17, 2021 - The North Central College men's track and field team turned in five first place finishes to place third in the seven-team field in Saturday's Wheaton Invitational at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium.
North Central scored 130 points to place third behind first place team Washington University's 219 points. Wheaton placed second with 157 points.
North Central's Gabe Pommier crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 1:51.67 to win the 800-meter run while Riley Hughes won the discus throw with a personal-best mark of 148 feet, 2 inches.
Also winning their respective events were Nick Janca in the high jump (6'6.75"), Kendall Johnson in the triple jump (45'9.25"), and Johnson, Michael Stanley, Maceo Findlay, and Jamauri Spivery in the 4-by-100-meter relay (42.11).
Taylor Sadkowski turned in a second place finish with a personal-best mark of 168 feet and 7 inches. Sadkowski's mark moves him to the No. 4 spot on the program's outdoor top-10 list. Also placing second was Tim Bertulis with a personal-best time in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:34.44).
Third place showings came from Spivery in the 100-meter-dash (10.91), Gavin Carr's personal-best mark in the pole vault (13'6.50"), and Hughes in the shot put (46'8").
The Cardinals will split up next Friday with student-athletes traveling to Elmhurst, Ill for the Elmhurst University Invitational and to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays.
