May 20, 2021 - The North Central College men's track and field team used a final tune-up opportunity to its advantage Wednesday and Thursday, scaling the national lists in a pair of sprint events in the Gregory Invitational, hosted by the Cardinals at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
North Central's 4-by-100-meter relay team of Kendall Johnson, Michael Stanley, Maceo Findlay and Jamauri Spivery established a season-best time for the third straight week, clocking a time of 41.01 seconds to move into second place in the program's history and sixth among all NCAA Division III relay quartets this season. The Cardinals' varsity record of 40.78 seconds was set by Emil Ostberg '98, Zach Bukal '00, David Thompson '99 and Joel Williams '99 as they won the 1998 national championship in the event.
Stanley later lowered his 200-meter personal best to 21.36 seconds, rising to fifth-fastest nationwide, while Spivery placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.67 seconds. Erik Musgrave won the 400-meter hurdles (54.68) and Gavin Carr finished third in the pole vault (14'0").
Qualifiers for the Division III Outdoor National Championships will be announced on Friday. This year's championship will be held May 27-29 at Irwin Belk Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina.
