AURORA, Ill. (Sept. 5, 2023) - The North Central College men's golf team commenced its 2023 fall season Tuesday, taking part in the 36-hole Double Gun Classic. The event was hosted by Aurora University at Aurora Country Club.
The Cardinals turned in a team score of 335 in Tuesday's opening round, followed by a 325, for a two-round total of 660. The host Spartans won the event with a score of 599, seven strokes ahead of their own 'B' team, while Hope College (Michigan) placed third with 611. Aurora's Brayden North won the individual championship by four strokes, carding a one under-par score of 143.
North Central's efforts were led by
Brendan Joy and
Mitchell Mazzei, who tied for 17th out of 96 finishers with a score of 156. Joy posted a score of 81 in the morning round and improved to a 75 on the second tour of the course, while Mazzei turned in identical scores of 78 in both rounds.
Zachary Lunde placed 55th with a score of 156, followed by
Mitch Boryszewski and
Derek Olson, who tied for 83rd (182). A second North Central contingent, which placed 16th with a score of 684, was led by
Cole Martin's 56th-place finish (166).
The Cardinals return to action Sept. 11-12, competing in Carthage College's Firebird Classic at The Club at Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
