Jan. 20, 2024 – The North Central College men's track and field team faced their second home meet of the season on the Al B. Carius Track, taking second overall in the annual Pat Heenan Invitational.
The Cardinals finished the day with a team score of 189.5 falling just 9.5 points behind Olivet Nazarene University.
North Central achieved two first-place finishes between
Braden Nicholson in the mile run with a time of 4:19.87 and
Aidan Armstrong in the 3000-meter run with an 8:44.99. Anthony Eddy followed behind Nicholson in third with a time of 4:24.23 while Kal Hoppe followed Armstrong at third with an 8:54.85.
The Cardinals obtained second in the 800-meter run from Nicholson (2:00.11) and a third-place time in the 60-meter hurdle from
Jacob Ahlberg (9.86). In team events, North Central took third in the 4x400 relay with a combined effort from Eddy, Nicholas Keeling, Alex Benkart, and Caleb Kernaghan for a final time of 3:41.72. The Cardinals competed uncontested in the 5000-meter run with the top three finishers being
Max Svienty in first (14:40.57), BJ Sorg in second (14:56.43), and
Jacob Everix in third (14:56.60).
For field events,
Colton Oleson acquired second in the high jump receiving a mark of 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3.25 inches). The third-best mark for the pole vault went to
Joel Jaquinde (4.25m, 13' 11.25") while
Luke Hemmersmeier received a third-place distance in the long jump (6.62m, 21' 8.75").
Daniel Dominguez also contributed a third-place 14.12m (46' 4") mark in the shot put.
North Central travels to the Gately Indoor Track and Field on Jan. 26th to compete in the DePaul Invitational.
