WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 13, 2024) - The North Central College men's track and field team sent a handful of long-distance runners to the University of Wisconsin Platteville Invitational on Friday (Apr. 12), while the majority of the team competed at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 13).
At UW-Platteville, the Cardinals saw a lot of success, with three athletes finishing in the top ten.
Max Svienty finished the 5,000-meter run in fourth with a time of 13 minutes and 57.03 seconds. Svienty's time ranks fourth in Division III and second in program history, surpassing Dan Mayer's record set in 1994 (14:00.63).
Additionally, in the 5,000-meter run,
Braden Nicholson placed seventh (14:12.12), and
Connor Riss placed ninth (14:16.91).
Back in Wheaton, Illinois, North Central placed second in the 11-team Invitational.
On the track,
Luke Cerwin finished third in the 1,500-meter run (9:48.77). Andrew Lehman took fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.02), and
Owen Dare took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (3:58.20).
Jayden Leise was crowned the champion of the triple jump after submitting a jump of 4.25 meters (46'10.25").
Michael Ruettiger and
Joel Jaquinde finished second (13'11.25", 4.25m) and fourth (13'5.25", 4.10m) in the pole vault.
In the discus throw,
Anthony Zajac turned in a third-place throw (137'7", 41.95m), and
Daniel Dominguez followed in fourth (135", 41.27m).
Zajac also finished fourth in the hammer throw (166'6", 50.75m), and Cole Oleson placed fourth in the high jump (6'2.75", 1.90m).
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend, Apr. 19 and Apr. 20, for the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.
