NORMAL, Ill. (Apr. 14, 2024) - Facing a field packed with high-level competition for the second straight weekend, the North Central College women's golf team turned in one of the finest 36-hole efforts in its history Saturday and Sunday. The Cardinals posted a 12th-place finish in the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University at Ironwood Golf Course.
The Cardinals carded a first-round total of 332 on Saturday, then improved to 324 Sunday to post a final score of 656. North Central's total is the eighth-lowest in the program's history, and the lowest since the Cardinals established the school record of 627 at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship in October.
The host Titans, ranked 12th in the most recent Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Top 25 Poll, won the team competition with a five-over-par total of 581. IWU posted a 17-stroke victory over No. 11-ranked St. Catherine University (Minnesota), while No. 18-ranked Carleton College (Minnesota) placed third with 619.
IWU's Macy Luwig claimed first place in the individual standings with a three-under-par total of 141, finishing two strokes ahead of St. Catherine's Macey Martin. Reagan Braker led the Cardinals with a score of 158 (78/80), placing 28th out of 114 finishers.
Madison Place finished 42nd overall (81/82-163), followed by Mallorie Clifton in 59th (86/81-167), Aleksa Gizewicz in 64th (87/81-168) and Chloe Chen in 82nd (91/86-177).
