Meet of Champion Results
Apr. 21, 2024 - The North Central College men's track and field team was crowned the champions of the Don Church Invitational on Saturday, along with three individuals placing first in their respective events. Additionally,
Jacob Ahlberg participated in the decathlon this weekend at the Meet of Champions in Rock Island, Ill.
North Central dominated the 1,500-meter run with three Cardinals sweeping the top three places. Taking first place,
Braden Nicholson finished the event in 5:55.37. Nicholson was followed by teammates
Logan Tanttu and
Connor Riss. Tantuu took second with a time of 3:56.81, while Riss was .03 of a second behind in third place.
Gage Nielsen and
Owen Dare finished the 3,000-meter run with new personal records. Nielsen led the event in third place, finishing the run in 8:49.07. Dare took third in the event after finishing the run in 8:51.70 seconds.
Jayden Leise also placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet and 4.5 inches. Also, in the field was
Daniel Dominguez. Dominguez took third in the discus throw with a new personal record of 145 feet and 4 inches.
Luke Hoffman and
Kal Hoppe finished second (9:22.32) and third (9:27.23) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively.
Jonathan Olenek also finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:27.44.
At the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.,
Jacob Ahlberg took part in the decathlon. Ahlberg finished with 4,546 points to take No. 20 in the highly contested event.
Next weekend (Apr. 25 - Apr. 27), a select number of the Cardinal athletes will participate in the Drake Relay in Des Moines, Iowa. While others will stay close to home to participate in the Elmhurst Invitational (Apr. 25 and Apr. 26). More information about both events is scheduled to be announced this week.
