ELMHURST, Ill. (Apr. 25, 2024) - The North Central College men's track and field team competed at the Elmhurst Invitational, where the Cardinals saw success in the field and on the track.
Anthony Zajac made program history in the field. In the hammer throw, Zajac earned a new personal record and first place with a toss of 186 feet and nine inches. Zajac's throw defeated the No. 1 throw in the program's outdoor top ten record of 180 feet and seven inches (55.04m) by Greg Lorence in 2006. Zajac is currently ranked No. 19 in Division III.
Second-place performances in the field came from
Ben Balboa in the discus throw (140'02", 42.72),
Prentice Myles in the long jump (21'8.75", 6.62m), and
Jayden Leise in the triple jump (45'1", 13.74m).
On the track, the Cardinals saw an equal amount of success. North Central swept the top six finishes in the 5,000-meter run while five Cardinals earned new personal records.
Max Svienty crossed the finish line first (14:29.67), followed by Nolan Crooks in second (15:21.49). Only 2.73 seconds behind Crooks was
Eric Turba in third place (15:24.22).
Jason Connor completed the 400-meter hurdles in 59.96 seconds to earn second place in the highly contested event.
The Cardinals currently have a select number of athletes competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. North Central is scheduled to have a relay team competing in the 4-by-1,600-meter relay on Friday (Apr. 26) at 12 p.m. Cardinal runners will also be competing in the distance medley on Saturday (Apr. 27) at 12:56 p.m.
