DES MOINES, IOWA (Apr. 27, 2024) - The North Central College men's track and field team took on top-ranked opponents at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, this week.
North Central began the meet on Thursday, which was their heaviest day of competition.
Gage Nielsen, Anthony Eddy, Caleb Kernagham, and
Lucas Hoffman competed in the 4-by-800-meter relay. The Cardinals team took ninth place in the event.
In the 800-meter run,
Logan Tanttu took No. 16 place in the highly competitive event. Two runners competed in the 5,000-meter relay, one in the unseeded event and one in the seeded, respectively. In the unseeded race,
Connor Riss earned a 14-minute and 15.13-second to take second place.
Braden Nicholson finished the seeded run in No. 16 (14:21.27).
BJ Sorg was the first North Central runner to finish the 10,000-meter run in No.15 (30:58.63).
Jonathan Olenek was next in No. 20 with 31 minutes and 33.97 seconds. Close behind finishing the race in 31 minutes and 52.48 seconds was
Clark Kelly, finishing in No. 22. Directly behind Kelly was
Kyle Nofziger in No. 23 (32:01.53).
On Friday, the 4-by-1,600-meter relay of
Owen Dare,
Aidan Armstrong, Nielsen, and
Luke Hoffmann took to the track. The team completed the run in 17 minutes and 34.57 seconds to earn No. 10 in the highly contest event
North Central's last event was the distance medley on Saturday morning. The relay team of Riss,
AJ Lehman, Tanttu, and Nicholson took sixth among 17. Their time of 10 minutes and 2.13 seconds ranks seventh in the program's outdoor top-ten records.
The Cardinals will compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships on May 3 and May 4 hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.
