NORMAL, Ill. (Apr. 8, 2024) -Â Taking part in a large and highly competitive field, the North Central College men's golf team turned in two rounds of steady play across two courses to place 25th out of 37 teams in the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Competing against five teams which appeared in the most recent Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) NCAA Division III National Top 25 Rankings and seven of their eight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foes, the Cardinals turned in a round of 317 Friday at D.A. Weibring Golf Course before a score of 315 Saturday at Ironwood Golf Course for a 36-hole total of 632.
No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the team competition with a four-under-par score of 568, finishing 24 strokes ahead of No. 8-ranked Bethel University (592), while IWU's 'B' team finished third with 596. A four-way tie for fourth place (598) featured No. 10 Aurora University, No. 12 Saint John's University (Minnesota), the No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Hope College (Michigan).
Nate Loxtercamp of Saint John's claimed first place in the individual standings with a three under-par score of 140, closing with a score of 68 at Weibring Golf Course Saturday, to post a one-stroke victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Nick Amtmann and Illinois Wesleyan's Griffin Pohl and Quinn Clifford.
Brendan Joy carded a 79 Friday and a 78 Saturday to pace North Central with a score of 157 to place 95th out of 200 finishers. Mitchell Mazzei placed 111th with 158 (80/78), followed by Braden Estes in 129th (78/82-160), Zachary Lunde in 145th (80/82-162) and Cole Martin in 158th (86/77-163).
