May 11, 2024 - The North Central College men's track and field team fought dramatic changes in weather this week as they hosted the Carius-Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Despite the weather, the Cardinals saw a lot of success on the track and in the field events.
Logan Tanttu turned in one of two top finishes at the Cardinals' home event as he clocked three minutes, 51.79-second run in the 1,500-meter race.
Braden Nicholson finished not far behind in second with a time of three minutes, 53.72 seconds.
Aidan Armstrong fought to the finish for a fifth-place showing of three minutes, 57.10 seconds. Tanttu and Armstong both recorded new personal bests.
Jacob Ahlberg notched the other top performance for North Central as he completed the javelin throw with a toss of 44.68m (146'7"). Vincent Pulles turned in a fifth-place finish with a 42.15m toss (138'3").
In the long jump,
Luke Hemmersmeier notched a second-best performance with a 6.97m jump (22'10.5"). Samuel Urbon and
Bryce Chamberlin finished third (15:35.09) and fourth (15:41.39) in the 5,000-meter run.
The Cardinals had three athletes place in the top five in the 100-meter hurdles.
Nathaniel Williams earned a third-place finish and a new personal record, clocking 17.01 seconds, while
Luke Moran finished in fourth (18.33) and Ahlberg finished in fifth (20.62).
Turning in fifth-place finishes were
Ethan Holmes in the 100-meter dash (11.62),
Jason Connor in the 400-meter hurdles (59.08), and
Jayden Leise in the triple jump (14.05m, 46'1.25). In addition, Connor's time was a new personal best.
North Central will host the Cardinal Combined Events Qualifier on Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16, before sending a larger group to Augustana College for a final qualifier meet on Thursday, May 18.
