ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 16, 2024) - In their final meet before the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship, the North Central College men's track and field team competed in the Augustana Final Qualifier at the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex on Thursday. 
 
In the hammer throw, Anthony Zajac threw a new personal record and improved his top throw in the program's history. Zajac threw a 189-foot, three-inch toss (57.70m), improving his record by two feet, three inches (0.76m). Zajac earned a fourth-place finish in the event. 
 
Cole Oleson was one of three first-place finishes for North Central. Oleson cleared six feet, nine inches in the high jump. Currently, Oleson's jump ranks No. 16 in Division III. 
 
The Cardinals' distance runners continue to dominate on the track. BJ Sorg and Kyle Nofziger earned first (31:19.02) and third (31:34.34) in the 10,000-meter run. Nofziger was followed closely by Ishaan Patel in fourth place (31:49.72). Bryce Chamberlin finished eighth, clocking a 33-minute, 20.27-second finish. 
 
In the 5,000-meter run (Section 2), Braden Nicholson earned a first-place finish in 14 minutes and 17.66 seconds. Connor Riss crossed the finish line only two seconds after Nicholson to capture second place (14:19.53). Jonathan Olenek finished in No. 11 (14:56.51). 
 
Aidan Armstrong earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (3:57.21). Logan Schaefer followed closely behind, clocking a time of four minutes and 0.45 seconds (No. 11). 
 
North Central will travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the National Championships May 22-25.
