Clifton Finishes Fifth, NCC Fourth in first tournament

STURTEVANT, WIS. (Aug. 30, 2025) - Mallorie Clifton and the North Central College women's golf program started the season off with a strong showing at the Carthage College Ives Grove Firebird Women's Fall Classic over Friday and Saturday. The team claimed fourth place of 20 teams while Clifton claimed fifth place individually.  

The Cardinals carded a 644 over the two-day event, falling 10 strokes short of the host Carthage for third place, and 36 strokes shy of the victors Aurora University. 

Clifton shot an 80 in the first round, scoring par on 11 different occasions. She followed that up with a 74, coming just two strokes short of her collegiate-best round, scoring two birdies on the day, helping her secure the second highest individual finish of her career.

Clifton's final mark of 154 fell just a stroke shy of her best 36-hole score.

Aurora claimed victory in the two day event, winning with 22 strokes of separation between itself and the second-place finisher the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. The Spartans had three athletes finish in the top five, with Thanpimol Tharpanawongwech claiming the individual title of the weekend. 

Anna Meinhart paced the Cardinals in the first round, shooting a 79, making two birdies on the round. Meinhart went on to shoot an 81 in her second round, giving her an overall score of 160, which placed her 15th of the 90 golfers.  

Madison Place placed 23rd on the weekend, shooting rounds of 81 and 83 (164 for the weekend). She carded three birdies on the weekend, including her first collegiate chip-in, en route to her top 25 finish.  

Caterina Calabria ended the tournament on a high note, shooting a collegiate-best 80 in the second round of the tournament, making a clutch par on her final hole to secure the career mark. 

Aleksa Gizewicz netted two birdies on the weekend, shooting an 86 in the first round, and an 87 in the second.  

The Cardinals are back in action on Sept. 6 when they travel to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the Wartburg Invite.
