The North Central College women's golf team tied for second in the Benedictine University Fall Invitational this afternoon at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club. The Cardinals also had two individuals claim finishes in the top ten:
Mallorie Clifton and
Caterina Calabria.
Clifton continued her string of impressive performances, this time finishing fourth place overall with a score of 78 in the single round event. The senior collected birdies on consecutive holes, going one under on the par four sixth and the par three seventh.
Clifton's fourth place finish is her second-highest individual finish in her career, and her best this season.
Calabria matched her second-best collegiate round, shooting an 80 and finishing in tenth place individually in the field of 125, the highest finish of her career.
Aurora University won the day, taking home the title by an impressive 22 strokes. The Cardinals tied for second with two other programs, St. Norbert College and the Aurora University "B" squad, all finishing with a score of 331.
Madison Place finished in 25
th, shooting 85 on the afternoon, propelled by a birdie on the par five 10
th. The junior has finished in the top 25 in each of her last two meets for the Cardinals.
Aleksa Gizewicz shot an 88 on the afternoon, making five consecutive pars starting on the sixth hole. Gizewicz finished in 38
th place, her highest individual finish this season.
Carley Rogers also grabbed the highest individual finish of her young career, finishing in 48
th and shooting a 90.
Audrey Jaworsky made her season debut today, playing as an independent. She turned in a score of 96, parring three holes along the way. Jaworsky, a junior, finished in 79
th.
Annie Claussen also competed as an independent this afternoon, shooting a 91 and coming in 56
th place.
The Cardinals are right back on the course this Saturday, taking part in the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic hosted at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. The two-day tournament begins at 9 a.m.
