Mar. 6, 2021 - Led by a series of performances that took its competitors higher, farther and faster than ever before, the North Central College men's track and field team won 13 of 15 events to close out the home portion of its indoor season with a flourish in Friday's dual meet against Elmhurst University at Al B. Carius Track.
The 12th-ranked Cardinals swept the six field events, led by pole vaulter
Gavin Carr, who soared to a personal-best clearance of 14 feet, 7.50 inches, and triple jumper
Kendall Johnson, who extended his personal-record mark in the triple jump to 47'0.75".
Nick Janca cleared 6'6.75" to prevail in the high jump and
Jacob Miller won the long jump with a mark of 21'0.50".
Riley Hughes won the shot put (45'3.75") and
Taylor Sadkowski won the 35-pound weight throw (48'2.50").
Matt Jett, meanwhile, achieved a nearly 13-second personal best of eight minutes, 44.70 seconds to win the 3,000-meter run by a margin of roughly seven seconds.
Michael Stanley hit the finish line first in the 200- (22.46) and 400-meter dashes (49.90), while
Kevin Dixon won the 60-meter dash (7.21) and
Gabe Pommier won by more than 16 seconds in the mile run (4:09.39).
Kase Leday added a victory in the 60-meter hurdles (9.75) and
James McGlashon,
Ben Piotrowski,
Nigel Neibel and
Logan Tanttu teamed up to win the distance medley relay (11:05.37).
North Central will send a contingent of athletes to the CCIW Elite Invitational at Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, Mar. 13.
