Sept. 1, 2022 - The North Central College women's soccer team claimed its first victory of the 2022 season as they outscored the Aurora University Spartans 1-0 on Thursday night inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. 

The first half remained scoreless as the Cardinals defense quickly shut down the Spartans, holding them to a single shot while North Central on the other hand, maintained a dominating offensive front to tally 19 shots in the first 45 minutes of play but were unable to find a clear scoring opportunity.

Struggling to find their momentum against North Central's aggressive defense, the Spartans were again held to only one shot to remain scoreless through the remainder of the contest. 

North Central took advantage of an Aurora turnover early in the second half as Morgan Verbeten fired a pass to Elle Sutter in the box, finding herself in prime scoring position to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

The Spartans struggled to get the ball down field and found themselves held to two shots through the entire contest while the Cardinals put up 31. Aurora goalkeeper Kelsey Deck recorded 12 saves on the evening while junior goalkeeper Jordan Boyd picked up her first shutout of the season.

North Central travels a short distance down the road to Benedictine University on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3:00 p.m. to take on the Eagles at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine Sports Complex for a non-conference matchup.
